[SAC] infrastructure requirements from board

Hi board members,

I would like to invite you to edit new created wiki page

http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_infrastructure

Which should define more precisely, what we want to achieve with our proposal “moving mails to google infrastructure”

Some of you gave -0 to this point - please, have a look at the page and feel free to add your comments.

I would like to get back to SAC within few weeks and work with them together on our requirements, to find optimal technical solution

Thanks

Jachym

Am I the only person participating in the discussion ?

Am I the only person participating in the discussion ?

Do I need to Cc: every individual board-member in order to get in
touch or are rejected EMails to "board@..." being moderated ?

Cheers,
  Martin.

I ended up subscribed to the board in order to keep up with the posts
and to be able to reply. Not sure anyone moderates.

In response to the use of google apps for biz, the mail solution provided does not work well with mailman used for OSGeo email lists.

I am not going to explain this well (sigh):

Each time a member is included as both a recipient and via a mailing list mailman registers a bounced mail. After a certain percentage of subscribers bounce the entire domain is dropped. This is fine for the domain gmail.com (where the cast of subscribers is thousands and the threshold is never reached) but prevents me using jgarnett@boundlessgeo.com to subscribe to this list (where the cast is smaller and we last a month before being kicked off).

The workaround (use google groups for mailing lists) is not acceptable as there is no way to export the contents of a group out of google infrastructure.

I cannot recommend the use of google mail for osgeo board given these limitations.

Yes I understand the proposal - Just pointing out that the osgeo mail addresses could not subscribe to mailman (due to a technical limitation).

Jody,
I don’t think the idea is to use Google mail for mailing lists, only for osgeo mail addresses and using drive for documents repository.

Hi,

as you found out I'm now subscribed to the "Board" list but, be
assured, I didn't intend to flood the list. Right now I'm responding
to Jody's EMail because, of course, I didn't get Massimiliano's
response.

First I was surprised by the rush to establish the use of Google's
services for OSGeo Board .... and now I'm surprised because almost
nobody bother's to explain the motivation behind. Jachym made this
nice Wiki page at:

  http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_infrastructure

.... which, as usual, has a "discuss" tab. Did anybody have a look at
this tab ? There's a request for clarification.

Best regards,
  Martin.
