When you got stumped on login to the Wiki VM 8 hours ago were you using
your osgeo id or your ssh key based login. I get the feeling LDAP on
OSGeo1 was the hangup. Which makes me think we need to take a look at
the PAM settings to make sure that when LDAP is down login still works
as it should by falling back to local accounts.

I've been using the SSH key based login - it's the same situation
today at about the same time of day. But you're right, the LDAP service
on 'osgeo1' is darn slow at the moment,
