[SAC] MOTION: Migrate OSGeo-Live issues to another Trac instance

Hi all,

Just attended a SAC meeting, and an old issue was brought up: our issue tracker is in OSGeo general instance, mixed with tickets from SAC and others.
I would like to make a motion to move our tickets to another trac instance.

The result of this motion would be to open a SAC ticket for a migration, hoping to get a volunteer to help with this task.

Here is my +1,

Ben,

Never tried it but gitlab has apparently an import module (rather expected given they directly compete):

https://docs.gitlab.com/ce/user/project/import/github.html

There are also ways to backup github tickets through their REST API with gitthub-backup (which I tried)

For example:

  1. pip install github-backup

  2. in github UI, create a personnal access token, so as to be able to use authenticated

requests to github API, to bypass the rate limit of unauthenticated requests (you can use it even for repositories that you don’t own)

  1. github-backup -i -R python-github-backup josegonzalez --issues --issue-comments --issue-events --pulls --pull-comments --pull-commits -t ${your_github_token}

+0. I’m tentitively in favour of migrating to a better track system, but would fist like to be comfortable with:

  • What new tracker will we use and will it integrate with our current workflow?

  • Can we migrate old issues?

  • Can we exit from the new system if we need to (as per Ben’s comments)?

I'm not experienced with Trac administration. As I recall strk said most of the work is creating a new postgresql trac db from existing, deleting all the non-LiveDVD tickets.

I can do that much and can read up on doing the rest.

Thanks,
Regina

If someone's willing to take on the ticket removal, I'd offer to copy into a
new instance,

Hi Martin,

The OSGeo-Live PSC discussed this issue on weekly meeting and Brian Hamlin offered to provide a report on tracker solutions available.
PSC members want to investigate the options (Trac, GitLab, Gogs, GitHub etc) to avoid duplicate work in the future.
We were also happy to have Regina joining the meeting.

Best,
Angelos
