[SAC] (no subject)

Hi Sacsies,

I know trying to bump tickets like this is probably very bad form
[almost as bad as getting the list address wrong], but the committee
for FOSS4G 2013 would like to get a conference site for submissions up
and running. Is there anything I need to do to get things going on
ticket 1008 [http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/1008\]?

Or at least it would be good to know if this was possible, then if
not we could find some hosting elsewhere.

Thanks

Barry

Barry,

On the contrary - it is a very good idea.

I suspect the lack of response is largely because no one on SAC knows
much about OCS. I'd suggest you also ask on the conference mailing list
to see if anyone familiar with administrative details is around and can
provide assistance.

I'll do anything I can but I don't know much about it.

Best regards,

Best regards,

I think Martin was doing some clean up on the machine where previous
FOSS4g sites are hosted. But as Frank points out, if someone on the
local committee has OCS experience or you know someone else in the
community we could use their expertise.

It should be simple to setup, as it's a php app, on any machine we
already have mysql on. That said I've never done it and I'm no php
expert, especially when it comes to securing such a site from rogue bots.

Thanks,
Alex

That's correct, I've united the known FOSS4G sites on the "webextra" VM
(as far as I remember most of it had already been there). I mostly
know how to migrate sites between different servers, but unfortunately
I can't help with administering OCS - I didn't even know that the name
stands for
I'm sure there must be someone familiar with OCS - because obviously
someone has set it up - and I wonder why these people don't respond, at
least they could provide a hint or two on how to proceed.

Cheers,
  Martin.

Using an installed test instance at:
http://www.osgeo.org/ocs/

At present you have to register to use it (and there is no linkage to your
OSGeo user id yet). It includes most of the basic features you need for
managing presentation proposals, paper reviews, etc.

I'm not going to make a strong push to use it for 2008 but I definitely
think this is an area that the international conference committee can help
streamline events year from year. I mean, by helping host and manage this
instance of OCS, so that setting up a website, managing registrations, etc.
does not all have to be re-invented every year. It would at least be
fruitful to mirror some of the previous conference(s) into here to see how
it works/looks, etc.

The test instance is not fully set up, if someone would like to volunteer to
get it set up to be more viable, please let me know and I'll promote you.
As OSGeo grows and other events around the world start happening, this site
can also serve to handle, promote, archive and those events as well.

Ideas, questions?

Tyler
