As more and more people become interested in real-time chatting with
developers and tend get enchained in proprietary chat system solutions, it
might be useful to give them an easy way to find the open place in which
we meet daily (Freenode IRC network).
What would you think about a chat.osgeo.org webpage serving a web IRC
client ?
An instance of something like https://kiwiirc.com/ could be a good start,
branded for OSGeo and maybe having per-project entry points, to integrate
with trac (a "chat" tab).
Maybe a chat.osgeo.org page could simply redirect to the
webchat.freenode.net passing OSGeo username as the nickname
and the appropriate channel (but not sure it makes really sense)

matrix.org seems to have fixed the problem. It now also supports
"tematical channels" so we can use http://matrix.to/#/+osgeo:matrix.org -
To me we can close this ticket as "fixed upstream", although it would be
nice to expose Riot.im on osgeo machines (it's just javascript component)
