Currently the signup form backend crashes if you use non ascii characters
for your name (e.g. "Mei ßer").

It's a known limitation of the LDAP server. The user creation form
contains a notice about that, should it be made more evident ?

The form should probably do validation before submitting, and kick back to
the user if unacceptable characters are used. Something on the page
stating what characters are allowed could also help.
