#2103: broken/missing avatar pictures making postgis page very slow to load

The page https://www.osgeo.org/projects/postgis/ takes over a min to load,
while other projects like grass and geoserver are fine.
When it did finally load the only unusual thing is many profile pictures
that are missing / broken. I assume these are trying to display a gravatar
picture.
Clicking on one of the links and choosing *copy image address* shows:
