[SAC] [OSGeo] #2959: Help getting FOSS4G 2022 videos into video.osgeo.org and FOSS4G youtube channel

#2959: Help getting FOSS4G 2022 videos into video.osgeo.org and FOSS4G youtube
channel

There is currently some difficulty with getting FOSS4G 2022 videos into
Youtube because of rate limits etc.

So plan is to load them into our Peertube instance video.osgeo.org and
then push them also to Youtube using the Youtube API.

I'm still reviewing how we can achieve this.

As far as loading into video.osgeo.org, I think I just need to allocate a
staging folder to scp these up.

And then we can use the Peertube upload api reading from a CSV file to
load in the videos and associated meta data, like discussed here -
https://beeldengeluid.github.io/extending-peertube/migration/2021/07/06
/importing-videos-with-the-api.html

using the Peertube upload cli CLI tools guide | PeerTube documentation
#peertube-upload-js

I think things are a bit easier since that article was written 2 years
ago.

The Youtube side worst case, I think we just read from the staging folder
and process using the existing Youtube script we have perhaps just having
it load 5 a day or so. I haven't looked that deeply into Youtube, but I
couldn't find a way to just import a video url stream, like Peertube
offers for (Youtube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion). That would be the ideal
solution.

All,

Is there a location for Chapter meeting video to be store/posted online? I have a couple of years worth for our local Chapter.

Yes. You can put on https://video.osgeo.org .

You should be able to log in with your osgeo ldap account. I think I have a default quota set to 10 GB per day / max 100 GB per user,
but I can up that if you need more space than that.

You should also be able to create a channel for it.

Let me know if you need any help with that.

Thanks,
Regina

Thanks for the reply,

I'll not be able to get to it right away, but I'll let you know when I'm ready to move them. I was going to ask if a separate channel could be set up or not, so that is good to know.

FYI, in a few instances I have corresponding PPTs and related files for some of the presentations, any ideas on how to keep these together in a posted form?

Thanks

Ooops, forgot, should I get permissions slips from each presenter ahead of posting? I posted on my own server originally, so shouldn't be a problem, but if you think it's desirable I can chase down the authors and get their permission.

Doesn't look like you can upload none video/audio content.
However there is an annotations feature you can put in each video - https://framagit.org/framasoft/peertube/official-plugins/-/blob/master/peertube-plugin-video-annotation/README.md

Which allows for html, so you can hyperlink those docs there

For general docs, we have https://nextcloud.osgeo.org where you can put shared documents and mark them as public or only shared with a subset of users. Nextcloud you can get into with your OSGeo account as well.

I hadn't given much thought to it to be honest. I don't think that's necessary, but certainly doesn't hurt.
If you are concerned, there is a privacy setting on each video that has options:

Public - public to all even not logged in, and can be viewed from frontpage, channel or playlist
Unlisted - it's public but people need to know the url to see it
Private - only you can see it
Internal -- only people with an osgeo account would be able to see it and need to be logged in

I think the Privacy setting you can change anytime you want.

Ooops, forgot, should I get permissions slips from each presenter ahead of
posting? I posted on my own server originally, so shouldn't be a problem,
but if you think it's desirable I can chase down the authors and get their
permission.

There is another way. Even though the description section only allows plain text, I just noticed it looks like
It automatically hyperlinks web links.

Look at this one for example: https://video.osgeo.org/w/gnZ9JtuoiVCwTi3EVMLRaL

The 1km.geomatico.es/ is plain text, but appears as a clickable link in preview mode

That might be a cleaner way, since the description will show below instead of embedded in the video like the annotations would.

Doesn't look like you can upload none video/audio content.
However there is an annotations feature you can put in each video -
https://framagit.org/framasoft/peertube/official-plugins/-
/blob/master/peertube-plugin-video-annotation/README.md

Which allows for html, so you can hyperlink those docs there

For general docs, we have https://nextcloud.osgeo.org where you can put
shared documents and mark them as public or only shared with a subset of
users. Nextcloud you can get into with your OSGeo account as well.

This would be a preferred option I think, but your suggested link doesn't present anything with "geomatico" I did a search on the page with nothing coming back, is it in some other link that I'm missing?

That will work fine.

I'll let you know when I start working on it. The list is here that I'll be uploading. The backend server is down currently, so the links don't work. But this is representative of what I have.

https://www.osgeo.org/local-chapters/twin-cities-mn-usa-chapter/ (I have one or two that I still need to edit as well.

I'll likely just repoint these links once things are uploaded.

Bob,

Okay that would be great. Maybe you can be a guinea pig to experiment with the using the cli upload.
I've never used the cli before to pull in the videos.

Although if you have these as urls already, might be doable to use the built in feature to pull in by url.

video.osgeo.org and FOSS4G youtube channel

That will work fine.

I'll let you know when I start working on it. The list is here that I'll be
uploading. The backend server is down currently, so the links don't work.
But this is representative of what I have.

https://www.osgeo.org/local-chapters/twin-cities-mn-usa-chapter/ (I have
one or two that I still need to edit as well.

I'll likely just repoint these links once things are uploaded.

I would need to resurrect the box they are on and mount it on the network. It''s a pretty old machine and is occasionally shutting down from overheating, etc.

I'll get that working first before trying anything. I may just replace it, and use it as a backup for all the videos. I've been meaning to do this anyway, now I have a reason. I also have most everything in dropbox, but that are not organized really well there.
