Just forwarding to SAC in case it wasn't noticed from the discuss list.
Also note that right now if someone goes to http://foo.osgeo.org - many of the links in the project listing point to http://foo.osgeo.org/projectname, maintaining the current (erroneous) subdomain.
I would like to update the project listing to point to the official, absolute, websites, as Jason promotes below. So, Jason, that's +1 from me

Strangely enough, the https://mapserver.osgeo.org/ website
does not seem related to MapServer specifically, while
http://www.osgeo.org/mapserver is.my-name-is-fred.osgeo.org <http://my-name-is-fred.osgeo.org/> also returns results
This is an artifact of a wildcard DNS entry that systems administration committee is working hard to be able to retire.
Eventually we're going to have to decide on a consistant behaviour.
For instance...
- mapserver.osgeo.org is not hooked up
- gdal.osgeo.org (and mapguide, mapbender, ???) are the projects' main sites
- geotools.osgeo.org redirects to www.osgeo.org/geotoolsI _think_ my preference would be that projectname.osgeo.org always returns or redirects to the main page for the project (depending on whether it's hosted on OSGeo servers or not), while www.osgeo.org/projectname <http://www.osgeo.org/projectname> gives you a quick summary (info sheet) on the project.
So, for this case, www.osgeo.org/mapserver <http://www.osgeo.org/mapserver> continues to return the info sheet, while mapserver.osgeo.org redirects to mapserver.gis.umn.edu <http://www.mapserver.gis.umn.edu>
