Dear all,

finally we have a replacement for the old userMap that would not work
with the new Mediawiki version of the OSGeo wiki.

See: https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Category:OSGeo_Member

I managed to save the locations from those who provided them for the old
userMap.

See the documentation, for how to add yourself to the map:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Category:OSGeo_Member

And also do not hesitate to ask me directly for help if anything is
unclear or not working as expected.

Thanks are due to Martin Spott (SAC) for his support during the
installation on the wiki server!

I also wrote a blog post including some detail about the new OSGeo
Member Map implementation:

http://cwillmes.de/blog/2015/11/20/new-semanticmediawiki-based-osgeo-member-map/

Cheers,
Christian

Hi Christian,

I'm very pleased that we finally managed to get the "Wiki-deadlock"
resolved, many thanks for your dedication !

Christian,

Thanks for getting that done.

I just noticed some strange things. On my user page
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/User:Wildintellect
I have my mini map which shows my location correctly.
There is a little junk rendered that probably shouldn't be, I assume
from having created my location before the form. Is it safe to remove
these lines?

{{#umSetParam: -121.7339|38.5507|Davis|wildintellect|Alex Mandel}}
{{#umUserMap: wildintellect}}

Next, I don't show up on the overall map of everyone. But I am in the
list at the bottom.

Any ideas?

PS: I already found and fixed someone who said India but ended up in
Norway (coordinates inverted).

Thanks,
Alex

Yes, you can remove this lines now.

Next, I don't show up on the overall map of everyone. But I am in the

I think this is connected to a known data chaching issue. After running "Data repair and upgrade" on the "Special:SMWAdmin" page, and then running "php maintenance/runjobs.php" in the wiki directory on the server it should be fixed. Though, I just did this and you are still not shown on the map... I don't know what is causing this right now, the markup you included on your page looks correct... I am further looking into this, and hope to find out whats causing this....

Any ideas?

PS: I already found and fixed someone who said India but ended up in

Thank you, yes it looks like that there is some data gardening needed. I hope everyone checks their own coordinates and fixes it, but anyone else can also fix it of course.

Regards,
Christian

Alex

Hi Christian,

Thanks for all of this work.

I am in the same boat as Alex. Actually when I check those already listed in the "OSGeo Members" category, most users listed there are not actually displayed on the map currently (we are all in the same boat, so to speak).

Example: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php?title=User:Jmckenna&redirect=no which redirects to http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Jeff_McKenna

Also, the template examples in the documentation (https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Member_Map_documentation) give incorrect syntax:

{{OSGeoMember
|Name=
|Address=
|Country=
|State=
|City=
|Coordinate=
|LocalChapter=
|Email=
|Website=
\}}

Should actually be:

{{OSGeo Member
|Name=
|Address=
|Country=
|State=
|City=
|Coordinate=
|LocalChapter=
|Email=
|Website=
}}

Thanks,

-jeff

I am still figuring it out, but I see you have the old markup on your page. Try replacing the #umSetParam and the #umUserMap

with this markup:

{{OSGeo Member
|Name=Jeff McKenna
|Country=Canada
|City=Lunenburg
|LocalChapter=Atlantic Canada Chapter
|Coordinate=44.35961, -64.25770
\}}

Example: http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php?title=User:Jmckenna&redirect=no which redirects to http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Jeff_McKenna

Also, the template examples in the documentation (https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Member_Map_documentation) give incorrect syntax:

Shoot! I fixed it in the documentation! Without the space in 'OSGeo Member' was the name on my testing wiki, on the OSGeo wiki the Category has actually a space, I saw this just before I uploaded the schema, and forgot about the documentation.#

Thanks, let me know if that new markup does not work.

Christian

{{OSGeoMember
|Name=
|Address=
|Country=
|State=
|City=
|Coordinate=
|LocalChapter=
|Email=

\}}

Should actually be:

{{OSGeo Member
|Name=

I am still figuring it out, but I see you have the old markup on your
page. Try replacing the #umSetParam and the #umUserMap

Hi Christian,

Do you mean the syntax already on this page?

  wiki.osgeo.org/index.php?title=User:Jmckenna&redirect=no

You can see that it doesn't work for me, if I place it on that page or on the redirected page, I have tried both :frowning:

-jeff

Yes I see. Your markup looks correct so far...
I will try to get help from the SMW community on this.

Hi,

Alex is now shown on the map. I adapted the query to fliter now additionally for valid coordinates, thus the result set is much smaller, and now I think all locations are shown.

@Jeff, according to a SMW dev, the problem with your location not shown is most probably due to the redirect page. Can you try to include the template directly on your Jeff_McKenna page?

hi christian,

next question

when i click on my marker on the member map, the following is displayed:

Address: Lunenburg, Canada

i'm guessing most of that info is read automagically from another page, such as the OSGeo Advocates wiki page? let me know where that info comes from, and i'll update it (i will update the correct list of new board members etc.)

thanks,

Hi,

yes, it appears, that on the Board site [1], many OSGeo Member templates are included. That inclusion of multiple locations on one page was not intended.

I already said to Cameron, that I will implement a model for creating the OSGeo Advocates directory from SMW data.

For the board list, I think I need to implement something similar. Right now the complete user profiles are included on that page through {{User:<username>}}, thus the location data is entered again too, and somehow this is then connected with your location (Its probably the same for the other board members)...

Lots of things that need to be sorted out now, but we will get to it and then it has many advantages compared to the previous userMap...

Cheers,
Christian

i'm guessing most of that info is read automagically from another page, such as the OSGeo Advocates wiki page? let me know where that info comes from, and i'll update it (i will update the correct list of new board members etc.)

thanks,

great! Yes I guess, its due to the additional filter that this works now.

wow, christian, everything works now!? i swear this didn't work
yesterday, maybe it was that caching you mentioned? in any case, both
my own template map works on my wiki page, and i'm listed magically on
the member map  thanks!!!

Hi,

Alex is now shown on the map. I adapted the query to fliter now
additionally for valid coordinates, thus the result set is much smaller,
and now I think all locations are shown.

@Jeff, according to a SMW dev, the problem with your location not shown
is most probably due to the redirect page. Can you try to include the
template directly on your Jeff_McKenna page?

thanks, I meant to send earlier but I wanted to make sure I didn't
have coordinates flipped ha  I was doubting myself

But these same coords worked with the old usermap syntax.

Thanks for looking into this.

Yes I see. Your markup looks correct so far...
I will try to get help from the SMW community on this.

I am still figuring it out, but I see you have the old markup on
your
page. Try replacing the #umSetParam and the #umUserMap

Hi Christian,

Do you mean the syntax already on this page?

wiki.osgeo.org/index.php?title=User:Jmckenna&redirect=no

You can see that it doesn't work for me, if I place it on that
page or
on the redirected page, I have tried both :frowning:
