PS to SAC: we should likely apply to get control of #osgeo and
#osgeo-<anything> as a group, see https://freenode.net/groupreg
For your information: I sent a mail to freenode admins to start
the process. Will keep you posted.
I have heard that it is already the case that OSGeo has control of
#osgeo-<anything> as a group on freenode. I'm not sure of the details
nor could I find documentation on the wiki.
I vaguely recall Jeff (I think) mentioning recent contact with
Freenode about this. Was that you Jeff? Do you know what the details
are?

I think I can recall a similar info, not sure where I heard it from.

I've been chatting with freenode ops who suggested to check with
a /who command if anyone was having the "osgeo" cloak. I did and found:
* mloskot H 0 ~mloskot@osgeo/member/mloskot [realname]
* hobu G 0 ~hobu@osgeo/member/hobu [Google me]
* aboudreault H 0 ~aboudreau@osgeo/member/aboudreault [Alan Boudreault]
Now I'm waiting for an answer from the admins to figure out what's going on.
I've been told that an "osgeo" group exists and the sole primary contact
is Tyler Mitchell. After verifying Tyler has not been active in IRC for
a long time they now ask for one or more contacts. I'm in, who else want
to share that ?

Please add me as well, as admin.
(was offline literally for 2 days, as a blizzard with 110km/hr winds and 60cm of snow knocked out power here for 2 days, now that is *offline* ha!)

The "osgeo" group on freenode now has Mateusz, Angelos,
Jeff and myself as primary contacts and co-founder of
all of the currently registered channels:
Existing access lists were only added to, so people who
had admin (or other kind of) access before the addition should
keep having it now. If this is not the case let us know.
If anyone is willing to write this information down on the wiki
(please do!) this is a good place: https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/IRC
Sorry to miss the initial email thread, but next time if we need any IRC changes there is a Freenode Staff person who lives (always) in the #foss4g channel, his nick is "tomaw". (I find getting a response from that email alias 'projects@freenode' is sporadic, sometimes it takes me several emails over several months to get action)
Also, now that we have control of an OSGeo 'group', should we consider adding the OSGeo projects' IRC channels into the group as well?
I'm editing the IRC wiki now

You mean renaming channels like #postgis to #osgeo-postgis ?
Or what does it mean, exactly, to add IRC channels into the group ?
Sorry I'm very new to this, all I really needed was to set the topic
on #osgeo-sac
