Before your request for an account “Samgoswami” can be accepted on OSGeo Wiki you must first provide some additional information.

Please elaborate on your interest in OSGeo.

There may be contact lists on site that you can use if you want to know more about user account policy.

Hi,
actually they have to give a short bio in a text field on the wiki account request form upon which we decide if the requeste is a spammer or not.
Not by mail to info@osgeo.org.

We occasionally ask for that to make sure they are not just spammers.
This kind of filter was proved to be effective in a few cases already.

It's very interesting to gather that information, btw.
It could even serve to build the new user page on the wiki,
as I've seen Christian doing recently:
https://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&from=20160708083035

Even better, once the wiki moves to use the same credentials these new
users come asking a mantra for, as requested in this ticket:
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/165

We need more sysadmin volunteers, who's up to take some steps further ?

Here some experience from the GRASS GIS Wiki - same problem:

For some weeks we have now real human spammers who are able to write a
"geo related" bio. After acceptance they blow up the wiki.
So: CAREFUL.

At time 95% of such bios are crap. :frowning:

Hi,

OK, I’m going to ignore such bios, send to info@osgeho then
