Subject: PEER 1 - Kernel Update Requires Reboot

Dear Valued Customer:

A security update was recently released for your Linux server that
requires a reboot to take effect. Please schedule and perform a
reboot at your earliest convenience to protect the security and
reliability of your PEER 1 server.

We recommend the following procedure:

1. Ensure the updates have already been applied by typing
'up2date -u' from a root command prompt.
2. After up2date finishes, type "shutdown -r now" to reboot your system.

The 'up2date' command may report "All packages are up-to-date". This
does not indicate whether or not your system requires a reboot.
The security and reliability of your PEER 1 dedicated server is
important to us. If you need assistance or if your machine does not
respond after a reasonable period of time (usually 5 minutes) please
call us at 1-877-504-0091 or open a reboot request online at
https://dhsupport.peer1.com/.

Thank you for your continued business and support.

Sincerely,
PEER 1 Dedicated Hosting

Well, do they specify in detail _why_ they recommend this update ?

I have learned the hard way that OSGeo is hyper-conservative about
applying updates to the PEER1 servers. So, in this context we should
verify if the necessity for running this update applies for the OSGeo
machines.

Cheers,
  Martin.
