[SAC] PostgreSQL on Telascience server

Hello,

this is Christoph from Mapbender. Thanks to Howard for setting up our accounts; now I have a question about installing PostgreSQL on the Telascience server.

I ran "sudo yum install postgresql" and the installation completed, but there were two errors (I have attached a log file).

According to "sudo rpm -qa |grep post":
postfix-pflogsumm-2.2.2-2
postgresql-8.0.8-1.FC4.1
postfix-2.2.2-2
postgresql-libs-8.0.8-1.FC4.1

postgresql seems to be installed. But there is no start script in /etc/init.d/.

Do you know what might be wrong?

Thanks

Christoph

postgresql.log (2.4 KB)

Hello,

I'm still trying to get PostgreSQL running on the Telascience server (http://mapbender.telascience.org/). But I don't seem to get anywhere, see my previous post.

Please let me know if I'm addressing the wrong group here.

Thanks

Christoph

Christoph,

I believe you are addressing the right group but there just happens to
be no one who knows what has gone wrong.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the packages? I see that
/mnt/data3 is now just a plain directory whereas I presume at one time
it was used to mount an external disk. Perhaps things will go more
smoothly now.

If that doesn't help, but the only thing missing is the rc script, you could
likely setup something a bit custom to start postgresql.

Best regards,

Frank, Christoph,

We (GDAL) are also interested in running PostgreSQL there.
I'm not sure who installed it on the server, it could be me, but I don't
remember :-).
Anyway, if you will need any assistance, I'm ready to help with this.

I configured and started PostgreSQL on the xblade14-2.
As I see, we don't have PostGIS installed there.
What version do we want to install, from RPM or build it manually ?

Cheers

I got pgsql running for you /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql start
I did no config ... just started it up ...
it needed a local postgres user ...
and chown home dir files

Thanks to all for your kind help, you made my day!

I believe there is only one thing left to do: To enable the PostgreSQL extension for PHP I guess Apache has to be restarted. I guess I'm not allowed to do it. Can someone please restart Apache?

Thanks very much

Christoph
