[SAC] [support.osuosl.org #23649] Failed disk in osgeo4.osuosl.bak

Hello OSGeo Team,

We noticed that disk 3 has failed in osgeo4.osuosl.bak, and the warranty seems to be expired:

http://www.dell.com/support/my-support/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/H87NZL1?show_warranty_modal=true

If you would like this disk replaced, you will need to send a replacement to the shipping address listed at http://osuosl.org/contact. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Sean

SAC,

This system is setup RAID 6 so loss of 2 drives is tolerated. Looking
quickly I believe this is the correct replacement option.
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Cheetah-15000RPM-Internal-ST3300657SS/dp/B0035G0J98

$74 usd

At that price we should probably just get it ordered and shipped to OSL
without hesitating. I'm not sure if the machine will need to be brought
down to rebuild the RAID or not once they get the drive.

Thanks,
Alex

Last year it was Daniel M.. Not sure if the board has shuffled roles.

Quick note, we do have the option to buy a bigger drive and if we did so
for each drive as they go out or we feel the need the disk space of the
machine would increase once all 6 original drives are swapped out for
bigger drives.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi SAC,

I think Daniel M is out of the office until next week, but this week we
have a board meeting and maybe other board can do the order if you have a
clear proposal.

Good point Jorge. Maybe a SAC rep could attend the Board IRC meeting
this Thursday and discuss SAC budget needs for 2014 (or edit the wiki
page directly http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Budget_2014).

meeting agenda and time: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Meeting_2014-03-06

Cya then.

Jorge,

I do not think there is any need for Board deliberation on a $74 purchase of a hard drive. This falls within the existing SAC budget item (though small hardware purchases were not specifically mentioned).

In my opinion, there is no reason for SAC not to proceed. Given that Daniel holds the credit card it may be necessary to have him issue the order.

Best regards,
Frank

Sure sorry, I was trying to channel the order taking the chance that we
meet, and maybe someone apart from Daniel can do it, not that the Board has
to approve that cost at all.

If that can ve resolved now, better than tomorrow.

I think only TylerM and Daniel have access to our accounts now. Might
be best for someone to use their personal credit card and Daniel can
reimburse you later.

Alex,

I should also clarify that the drive that needs replacing appears to be a 3.5" 300GB 15k SAS drive.

Something seems amiss. The ProjectsVM stopped responding, high disk
latency and iowait ( 10-11pm PST)

We couldn't ssh so I tried to restart via Ganeti Web interface. No luck.
Can't even tell if it came back up.

Other VMs on osgeo4 seem ok but also have sizeable iowait.

I filed a ticket for the ProjectsVM issue:

This is critical, as it affects so many OSGeo projects.
