[SAC] Today's meeting notes and next meeting schedule

Today's SAC meeting went a little over an hour.

The status and transcript is on this page -
https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Talk:SAC_Meeting_2017-11-23

Next meeting is scheduled for December 7th, 2017 same time.

https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC_Meeting_2017-12-07

Most is a continuation of today's.

Thanks,
Regina

Thanks Regina, is there any status update on website hosting (and login access so we can edit content?)

With respect to those sign off items let’s email for clarification.

Jody,

Anyone who was given an account on old staging can use the same on new staging.

URL is https://staging.www.osgeo.org

Both Vicky Vergara and I have been able to log in with the accounts we were given on old Get Interactive staging site.

We’ve been talking on osge-sac IRC at moment on WordPress LDAP plugins. I’m cc’ing Jeffrey in case he has any thoughts on which one is better.

We agreed (on OSGEO Sac irc) it’s probably best for SAC (Which I’m willing to take ownership of) to do the installation.

Jeffrey,

Have any experience with WordPress LDAP plugins and want to venture a recommendation

https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/openldap/

So far two under consideration are:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/ldap-login-for-intranet-sites/

https://wordpress.org/plugins/next-active-directory-integration/

I think for our purposes we just need a plugin

that would of course allow logging in by LDAP login and allow segmenting rights by LDAP group since most projects have (or if they don’t) can have an LDAP group setup.

Thanks,

Regina

Thanks, so we know if all content was brought over (like is it safe to edit staging).

Yes all content should have been brought over so I assume okay to start editing. You’d probably be able to tell better than I can Jody so take a look thru.

Jeff please chime in if I am mistaken, but I believe you already brought everything over.

We don’t have a backup routine in place yet and I plan to get that in pretty quickly. For the time being I’ll just take snapshots of the database and website files and backup locally until we have the backup system in place per:

I have LDAP wordpress integration working now.

I ended up going with WpAuth (which seemed to have the largest number of installs).

I originally started with Active Directory Integration / LDAP because it had the most positive reviews and had been recently updated and quickly got turned off by that
https://wordpress.org/plugins/ldap-login-for-intranet-sites/

1) Required me to register to get an API key
2) Finally couldn't get it to work (and didn't try that hard because of 1)

Next I tried which I'm settling for now is : https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpdirauth/
(wasn't marked as tested with our version, but it worked, and has a larger use base than the first I tried) and allows for a mix of both local accounts and LDAP accounts and allows logging in via Wordpress if LDAP is down.

It auto-created my account on first login (which is probably most important feature)
And does allow you to pull select accounts from LDAP if you want to create ahead of time.

Only issue with it is which I'm suspecting will be an issue with any LDAP plugin we use is you can't have two user accounts with the same email address. So I had to switch my existing account to have a different email.

That said, we'll probably have to map existing users to their LDAP before we can use this.

To Jody and Vicky, can you verify your old account set up by GetInteractive one still works, that I didn't mess it up.
I'm not sure what happens if a user was already in system using a username the same as what they use in LDAP.

I think Vicky – the user name in wordpress and your LDAP one are the same, so you'd be a good test.

Thanks,
Regina
