today I ran two dist-upgrades on the OSGeo "webextra" VM. Upgrading
from Debian5 to Debian6 didn't reveal any unexpected findings, the
subsequent reboot as Debian6 using kernel 2.6.32-something was
successful.
Updating from Debian6 to Debian7 was a smooth proess as well, but the
reboot as Debian7 using its 3.2.0 kernel did not succeed - and
unfortnately I'm unable to connect to the console via Ganeti's web
frontend, I'm alway getting a "Connect timeout" (WinXP, Firefox25).
May I kindly ask you to kick the beast in a way so it'll reboot
afterwards ?
The GRUB2-chainloader might still be in place, I wonder wether that's
adding/leading to the trouble.
Thanks,
Martin.

I would like to get to the bottom of why soon, but some users have better success with the GWM console on Chrome/Chromium.

I have tried several times in the past month with Chromium without success.
Server disconnected (code: 1006)

I've set up a kernel path for the VM; hopefully you can SSH in now and fix up what all went wrong and remove the kernel path hack.

I can confirm that I can ssh in. But I think I need Martin to figure out
what state it's in, my key doesn't appear to be authorized on root and
sudo appears non-functional.
Will let you know when we want to try rebooting without the host kernel
hack.
Thanks,
Alex

The regular GRUB2-bootloader is now in place, but upon installation it
prints a warning message about using blocklists. I suspect the
embedding area is too small.
If that is true, then I suspect all the other VM's will be affected as
well and are subject to manual intervention during the next upgrade.
Cheers,
Martin.
