Is it possible to suppress the error message in the GeoServer if there are no objects in the requested time period and just return an empty map image instead?

You have the “presentation” set as List, which requires an exact value. Providing exact time values is kind of hard! What with timezones and all …
You may wish to consider one of the other continuous options? I expect that when combined with nearest match you will get a result (if not the empty map you prefer).
