The logos have arrived!

Woo-hoo!

I have just rec'd a big ol'd zip file from PushDesign with the final
logos in it (sample attached).

Suggestions as to how/where to best get this online?

This is great! Just in time for me to try to push out some business cards for a conference next week  Refresh my memory, what is still outstanding from him? Did we already talk about special logos for sponsors and members?

I also passed them by Aaron (who made the original version) and he thought the logo changes were good.

Is there any reason to not start pushing them out to our various web sites? Might as well start using them. I'd like to see how it looks on the osgeo.org and in the wiki. I mocked up what it might look like on the current site (attached), but obviously the grey gradient background isn't going to help any logo stand out So it's not really a fair comparison since it really needs a lighter outline to make it work on that background, like the old one did. Looks sharp on some plain white pages I threw it on.

Now that I've seen it in context, it doesn't seem so shockingly different. I bet if we just change it, few people will notice... we could place out bets.

FYI - I threw the reversed 1 colour version onto the header here:

I like it.

Cool. What format are they in?

If you want to send them to me I'll see if I can put together a "logos" page with usage and links to the files. I'll then ask for review before linking it to the website.

I can't accept zipfiles (annoying antigen settings) at this address though; I can give you an FTP url or send them to my firstname.lastname @ gmail.com

Tyler, Jason, others:

We can assume he won't get the cards done in time for AU. I'd like to hold off on making any cards beyond what you need right now for AU, though, so that we can maintain a common look/feel... I fear now that the logos are ready, they're going to be storming the gates and we're going to quickly lose control

John Close (Push Design) has now completed Phase 1 (logo design/refinement) and Phase 2 (delivery of multiple version & file formats). [If we need additional file formats, we can ask him or do it ourselves.] He still owes Phase 3 (ad template, powerpoint template, business cards) and Phase 4 (formal branding guide). I've asked him for a date on Phase 3, and hinted politely that the business cards are most important.

I think we're okay for Tyler and Jason to start rolling out the new logos -- although I do worry so about people starting to mash up their own variantions w/o VisCom input... Perhaps if everyone were to send me a list of what spins are needed ("Supporter of", etc) I can keep things sane... (Didn't I already start a list like that on the wiki? Hmm.)

I will pass the supersecret ftp info to Jason so he can unpack them for us somewhere nice.

Not yet linked to main site, so if I really screwed up I'm not in too much trouble

Once we get some "Supporter" "Member" "SuperElite Sponsor", etc logos they can have their own sections, or probably their own page.

Here are a couple more mockups with some halfway work done on the logo to make it stand out better. One is full-colour, the other is one-colour. I don't think I did as good a job with the full-colour one.

Attachment didn't come through for me.

I think this is good - it will meet a lot of the demands people are having.
Could we supply some <iframe> or <img src="http://osgeo.org/logo/OSGeo.png&quot;&gt; code snippit or something so people load logos direct from our site (obviously not appropriate for everything) - that way we can see who is linking to us. Various sites do this (e.g. flickr, amazon) and I think it's an important tool to (try to) use whenever possible.

I'm thinking it would also be good to not distribute the zip file, so we can at least track individual logo image downloads to get a feel for usage. Who should need more than one or two anyway?

Jason, some logos look strange, the background is not black but seems to be missing (I only checked the PNG format).
https://www.osgeo.org/content/logo/logos/OSGeo_2colorREV.png

...later

I just found out why that is:
<img src="images/OSGeo_2colorREV.png" alt="Two colour reversed logo" style="background: rgb(0, 0, 0) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;">

I imagine it might be helpful to have the logo carry its own black background color, but maybe I am wrong here (jpeg transparency?!, etc...).

Michael,
maybe this is the page that you refer to:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Logo_Use

Somebody (I admit it was probably me promptly running away) has suggested to work this over so that we have a common starting point. This might be worth a new top priority for VisCom so to not have happen what you fear - that everybody starts jumping at the logos and scrambles up their own version...

Best regards, Arnulf.
