The QGIS US Website

Hey, so we’ve got the US stuff moved over here on Discourse. That’s cool!

As folks trickle in from the mailing list, maybe now we can get some discussion going about the website:

The old QGIS-US site is still on GitHub:

And @rjhale1971 has the current domain:

Next Steps

Resurrect the GitHub site?

Start a brand new repo and use Hugo or Jekyll?

(OSM US has their own Jekyll theme that’s pretty nice: GitHub - osmus/dogwood: The Jekyll theme powering openstreetmap.us)

Something else?

I have 0 opinion - anything above wordpress is outside my pay grade… I can forward the domain to wherever it needs to go (or give someone access to it). I may have access to the old qgis.us repo also.

For what it’s worth, postgis, geos, and grass all use hugo, so some ideas can be borrowed from there.

https://postgis.net
https://libgeos.org
https://grass.osgeo.org/

postgis.net and grass.osgeo.org do not use github for pushing but libgeos.org does via the gh-pages - geos/.github/workflows/web.yml at main · libgeos/geos · GitHub
I have some familiarity with hugo so will be happy to answer questions on that or help out with that. No experience with Jekyll.

OSGeo does offer wordpress hosting since osgeo.org is hosted on wordpress using our own infra.
