Use discourse or discussions for developer chit-chat?

Now that the mailing list has been collected for the forum we need to decide what to do next.

The initial proposal was for GitHub discussion, but opening up the topic for feedback now that people can try out both options:

GeoNetwork Developer

We can use this forum (as described ) for communication.

Testing the email experience, and it is functional, provides threaded email. Also a little odd (markdown and including prior text look odd online, and if you make a message on the forum you do not receive an email).

GitHub Discussion

Provides great integration with GitHub issues and PRs.

How is the email experience? Is it just notifications or can you treat it like a mailing list.

The discourse migration is pretty much complete - but we need some folks with admin access to close out the source forge lists.

To help we need @ticheler, @josegar74 or @fxprunayre to send a final message and close the associated list. See Setup OSGeo Discourse for GeoNetwork Communication · Issue #8120 · geonetwork/core-geonetwork · GitHub for details and the final message to send out.

I have gotten the source forge credentials from @ticheler and will be closing the soruceforge list promptly.

Any further messages sent to the email list will receive an auto-responder with an invite the join the Geonetwork developers - OSGeo Discourse group on discourse.
