The Inaugural Rocket City Geospatial Conference
October 15-17, 2007, Huntsville, Alabama

Today, Directions Media announces the inaugural Rocket City Geospatial Conference October 15 -17, 2007 in Huntsville, Alabama at the Huntsville Marriott Hotel on the grounds of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. The objective of the conference is to focus attention on the breadth of geospatial technology research and application development represented in the Southeastern United States, the Northern Alabama region and Huntsville in particular. Many local and regional businesses and government agencies are developing some of the finest technology in the world to support applications from infrastructure management, emergency response, and homeland security to the integration of virtual reality with geographic information for missile defense.
Some of the topics we will offer in our workshops and breakout sessions during this 3-day event will include:
Emerging technology for discovery, visualization and access to geospatial information
GIS Certification, Job Classification, Workforce development
Homeland Security: Emergency Preparedness & Response
Metadata, or lack thereof: "The largest crisis in GIS today"
North Alabama's Niche in the Geospatial World
Open Source vs. Open Standards: Clearing up the confusion
Emerging Technologies: Ubiquitous computing; Sensors Web; GeoRSS; Microsatellites
Integration of GIS and "Virtual Reality" in Battlefield Management
Interoperability & OGC Specifications

On March 15th, we will announce a call for presentations with abstracts due May 15th. We will also offer workshops that will be designed to enable attendees to obtain education credits.

We expect a large attendance from local and state government agencies as well as supporting businesses and government contractors.
