What is the difference between website and wiki?

The OSGeo website is devoted to our public service “empower everyone” mandate. With a focus on out-reach - news / events / advocacy / communication content written for an audience of GIS and IT professionals.

The OSGeo wiki is used to support our existing members in the day-to-day activities of OSGeo operation.

Example: The wiki is used to discuss and identify sponsorship opportunities, which are then highlighted in a public news announcement on the website.

Example: The wiki is used to plan an event location and budget, and then announced on the website events page.

Example: The wiki is used to define a policy, which is then published as a PDF to the website resources page.

Note: As a community we value transparency and inclusion - so the wiki will contains opinions, budgets ,and planning that in many organizations would be considered “internal”.
