Who wants BuildBot?

Hi,

Recently, I installed and configured BuildBot machinery on one of
our servers. Here is document describing it in details:

http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/BuildBot_Configuration

I'm looking forward your comments or questions.

At the moment, two projects have configured BuildBot instance:

- GDAL
http://198.202.74.219:8500/

- PROJ.4
http://198.202.74.219:8502/

These URLs will be replaced with subdomains, soon.

Next step is to collect list of projects interested in using BuildBot.
May be it's a good idea to create Wiki page for this purpose,
where every dev team leaders could add project, as a declaration
that they want to use OSGeo BuildBot.

Frank suggested to advertise the OSGeo BuildBot on the incubator list.

The installation process will be carried on by BuildBot admins
(Current list of admins is here
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/BuildBot_Configuration#BuildBot_Administration).
The idea is to centralize BuildBot maintenance a little  I hope it's OK.

Any ideas, comments, questions?

Cheers

This looks good to me, the docs are comprehensive and clear. Your and
Howard's work on common build and test would be a good driver towards
synchronising releases, producing images etc...

I would say definitely go ahead and canvass interest on the incubator
list. Recall that a/ the java people like to do everything in their
own, warped, similar yet different manner, and they have something
called 'cruise control' also 'continuum' which work with something
svn-like called 'maven'.

"Let them sit in their java hole" you may be tempted to think, but it
would be good in the future to accomodate this. Also b/ the web
mapping clients and any other UI clients are harder to automatedly
test, I wonder if we can provide extra/common UI test automation.

Moon on a stick, eh?

cheers,

jo

Good.

I hope so.

OK, I'll try.

I'm not a Java programmer and I've not used these tools
BuildBot can build/test projects written in different programming
languages.

Yes, I agree but I don't think I have anything to say here.
Personally, I will provide technical support, install and maintain
BuildBot instance for anyone who needs it but I'm far from
leading any organizational aspects.

Yes, that would be good too. So, I'll ask our web mapping gurus later.

Moon on a stick, eh?

that may be tricky
