Help with Layer Map Tips Export

When I exported a layer (point layer) with Map Tips… the Map Tips did not export to the new layer.

Can someone please tell me why and what can I do to get the Map Tips exported to the new layer.

Project: I have identified all the Fire Stations in my county, then expanded to all the neighboring counties. I created a layer of points for each fire station with ‘mouse over’ pop-up map tips for each fire station. The original layer grew too large and cluttered up the map. I decided to create multiple point layers (one for each county) and then put all the layers in a group so I could selectively display by county. It didn’t work out as I expected!

Does anyone have a solution?

Make your original layer active in the layers panel.

Right Click and go to Properties → Symbology and down at the bottom save your style out as a QML layer.

Save that layer alongside your Shapefile (I assume you are working with a shapefile). That will get your maptips back with your layer.

(If you’re using a geopackage - save your style into the Geopackage as default in the local user database)

Good Luck!

Outstanding… thank you so much! This works much better than the work around I figured out.

-Work Around was to go to original layer, Properties, Display… then copy the Map Tips HTML code. NEXT, go to the new layer, Properties, Display… then paste the Map Tips HTML code into the new layer. Apply and OK.

Your solution works much better. Thanks again.
