Hi all,
QDT 0.46.0 is out (release, changelog). Two things deserve your attention before upgrading.
Breaking change: deletion_mode becomes deletion_policy
The deletion option was named deletion_mode in job options, while the CLI flag (--deletion-policy) and the documentation already used “policy”. We renamed the job option to make everything consistent (#903). Since the option is recent (0.44.0), we chose to rename it now rather than carry two names.
Search your scenarios for deletion_mode and replace it:
# before
options:
deletion_mode: trash_or_delete
# after
options:
deletion_policy: trash_or_delete
Values are unchanged. Please check your scenarios and your JSON schema validation before rolling out 0.46.0 on your fleet.
QGIS 4: what QDT handles
This release is the first step (#893). QDT no longer assumes a QGIS major version when it builds profile paths. We split the migration into three cases:
| Case | Workstation | Status in 0.46.0 |
|---|---|---|
| A | QGIS 3 only | Unchanged, this is the nominal behavior. |
| B | QGIS 4 only | Handled: the installation finder detects that 4.x is newer than 3.x, and the profiles/plugins jobs and the Cleanup Manager work on the QGIS 4 profiles folder (or on QGIS_CUSTOM_CONFIG_PATH if set). |
| C | QGIS 3 and 4 side by side | Not complete yet. |
Case C is the one many of us will actually meet in 2026-2027. The target is to process both default profiles folders and to respect qgisMinimumVersion / qgisMaximumVersion from each profile.json, so a QGIS 3-only profile is never pushed to the QGIS 4 folder. This will come in following releases.
A page dedicated on how QDT handles different major QGIS versions has been added to the documentation: https://qgis-deployment.github.io/qgis-deployment-toolbelt-cli/guides/howto_qdt_handle_qgis_major_versions.html.
Fix
Plugins declared with an explicit url were never downloaded (#901). Thanks to @nicogodet.
Profile Manager joins the organization
The Profile Manager QGIS plugin now lives in the same GitHub organization as QDT, qgis-deployment.
Originally developed by WhereGroup, it gives QGIS users a UI to create and manage profiles, to import settings from one profile to another, and to export a profile in the QDT format.
In practice, it is a convenient way to prepare and maintain a profile that QDT will then deploy.
Thank you to WhereGroup, especially @jkroegerWG, for their trust and for agreeing to include their plugin in a community project.
Thanks
This version was mainly funded by la métropole du Grand Lyon. Thanks also to @nicogodet and Benoît Ducarouge for testing and reviews.
