Speed problems after update to QGIS Server 3.40.4

after updating the QGIS Server from 3.34.15 to 3.40.4, we experienced speed problems with various applications (on test systems and in customer projects). The map buildup in the WebClient became much slower.
Both with Lizmap 3.8.5/3.8.6-pre, as well as with 3.9.0-beta.2. The option “Load layers as singleWMS layer” in 3.9 did not bring any improvement.
We then downgraded to QGIS Server 3.34.15 again. But we have no idea what the problem could be.

The servers run under Ubuntu 24.04. with Apache. Another user who works with nginx could not confirm the problems.

Can anyone here confirm the problem?

What are your general experiences with Apache and nginx?
Is there a recommendation, especially with regard to speed?

Ouch … iIt would have been nice to have some metrics, on some HTTP requests made. You can see all HTTP requests with F12 in your webbrowser, in the “Networks” tab.

It has been reported on GitHub that QGIS Server 3.40 was better than 3.34…

I will try soon.

This option is already in 3.8

The customer’s production projects had to be up and running again quickly, hence the rapid downgrade.

But the test system continues to run with QGIS Server 3.40.4.
Under “Test BürgerFIS 3.8.x” at https://cx21-8.webgis.biz there is a relatively lean project “Test BürgerGIS der Stadt Herbolzheim” and one with many (even non-existent) layers (Test WebGIS-Projekt Bauleitplanung der Stadt Herbolzheim). The latter in particular is quite slow, although it is also a small cloud server.
I can see the loading times under F12 in the network, but I don’t have the knowledge to draw any conclusions.

and here with the current version 3.9.0-beta.2 and the option “Load layers as singleWMS layer”. https://cx21-9.webgis.biz/

However, after the update I get the error message in the backend ”Your installation is not complete. Did you run lizmap/install/installer.php ?"
But the installer.php was executed

Can you share the content of lizmap/var/config/installer.ini.php when the errors occurs in the backend ?

Thanks, can you try with the beta 2, that has just been released now.

I think I forgot in the changelog about your issue from this morning. It should be fixed.

with today’s version the error message is gone
