[Crossposting here as well as on Gitter, as I’m not sure where to get better dev feedback these days.]
The Belgian FOSS4G is happening in September and the call for talk proposals is open now, with a deadline in 10 days). I’m quite far from any GIS work these days, but I will attend the foss4g.be, be it for nostalgia, as I’m one of the founding members and this will be the tenth anniversary edition.
Is anyone else from the GRASS community planning on attending, and on presenting GRASS ? If not, I’m willing to give a State of GRASS talk, but would need some support.
I’m still trying to follow some of the discussions, so I’m more or less aware of major changes, but if there is a recent State of talk (or any planned before mid-September) I could shamelessly take inspiration from, that would help .
Hey Moritz! Nice hearing from you! I thought we had lost you forever ehehe!
It would be great if you could present on GRASS at FOSS4G.be! @mazingaro will be presenting the State of GRASS talk next week at FOSS4G Europe, so that one will be the latest.
Please note that we have adopted a new logo and branding, and we are highlighting the geospatial processing part of GRASS more than the GIS part. I’m happy to call one of these days if you want a quick catch-up
Hi Moritz,
Good to hear from you! I was thinking about going to the Belgian FOSS4G conference. It would be great to catch up with our friends in Belgium again after last year’s joint Belgian/Dutch FOSS4G conference. I’m not sure though if it will fit into my teaching schedule yet. At FOSS4G.NL a week or so ago, I gave a talk about using GRASS in education and research. I included a quick overview of the current state, which I shamelessly borrowed from Vero’s presentation: https://ecodiv.earth/share/foss4gnl2025/.
As @veroandreo mentioned, I will be presenting it in a few days in Mostar. I have stolen directly 98% of it from @wenzeslaus and I can share it with you in a few days, after I fix some things. I have it in odp/pptx as I a was not super confortable to do it in HTML, and of course - I had to hurry up. There are not many changes from his - I gave a few different novelties (tools), finance things and insight on the Dev Summit which happend in May.
@mazingaro It would be great if you could send me your presentation.
Thanks Paolo for the presentation. Let me know if you can make it to Brussels. I’ll submit a talk proposal and if you come then we can do it together.
And @veroandreo always up for a talk with you ! No, you haven’t lost me for ever, but I have been very far from GRASS and GIS in general. My only tethering line is reading this list from time to time . I will however need some explanation on the difference between GIS and geoprocessing.
I’m leaving on vacation on Monday, but will not be completely cut off from the world.
